Fairisle Cowl

Fairisle Cowl

Have you seen the blog about how I made my lovely cowl? Look! Even that simple explanation wasn't enough to convince some newbie fairisle knitters so I've devised this lesson to initiate the uninitiated, to show you that not only is fairisle easy but working it out yourself is too!!! We'll be working in the round on circulars (and learning this is part of the lesson so don't worry), we'll be learning how to fairisle with two hands, how to plan on graph paper and how to wing it. We'll touch on colour theory and blocking and by the end of the lesson you'll have left with the start of your own lovely fairisle cowl!

This is what the (very newbie) ladies got up to on the first lesson we did:

Fairisle

The yarn that we'll be using is five shades of the King Cole Merino Aran. The needles aren't included because I find that people often have them - we'll be using 5mm, 80cm circulars and they'll be in stock on the day if you need to buy them. If you are a planner then bring some graph paper, if you're more like me and like to fly by the seat of your pants then we'll be providing a bit on the day.

You should be able to cast on, cast off, knit, purl confidently and increase and decrease (maybe not so confidently, chances are you'll be learning a different method anyway...). The lesson is also suitable for people who have fairisled before but want to become more confident and perhaps learn to knit with two hands.

All classes take place at the Trinity Walk shop and start at 10.30am sharp and finish at 3pm not so sharp... We have a half an hour lunch which I have to be strict about because four hours is a lot of finger work! You'll probably want to bring a lunch but you might be able to survive on the biscuits.

All classes are taught by the magnificent Eleanor Burke, manager here at Knit Nottingham, who is an obsessive knitter, crocheter and yarn lover with the patience of a saint! Kids and young adults are welcome but she does have a penchant for fruity language...

Full payment is to be made in advance. Lessons are non-refundable – please only book if you're are going to be available on that date. In the case of illness please let us know as soon as possible and before the lesson begins and we will endeavour to book you onto an appropriate alternate date but this won't always be possible and we reserve the right not to as the lessons are sold as non-refundable. Lessons are transferable so if you can't come you can send a friend instead (ideally, you'd let me know so I can write that in the diary).
