Knit In Public Day! Are you joining us?

While we are a shop, and we do sell things, that's not the be all and end all of Knit Nottingham. The thing that brings us the most happiness and fulfilment is the community we've built and the people we meet, and what better way to celebrate that than knitting in public outside of the shop during a free store event for an entire day together?

There isn't a better way, really, is there.

So, our Knit In Public day is on Saturday the 18th June. Started as a way to bring knitters together, it's also a way to combat a worry that I think we have all had at one point in our lives - knitting in public. I don't know why but when I first started out I was happy to share what I had made and wear my handmade garments everywhere, but the process of creating was not something I felt comfy doing in public. Which is silly, right? I've spoken to many people who have experienced this strange kind of blockage when it comes to doing our favourite thing in public. Thanks to the shop I've managed to get over that worry and now I knit unabashedly in public and really, really enjoy it even if I get some strange looks.

The shop has celebrated Knit In Public day for a long time. Here's some photos from over half a decade ago now!

Eleanor's always loved putting on a good event. This year, it's no different. On the Saturday from 10:30am until 5pm (basically, shop opening hours) we're all going to sit outside the shop and relax and knit in public even if it decides to snow. Well... maybe not, but the sentiment is there. WE'RE GOING TO KNIT IN PUBLIC.

All you're going to need to bring is a camping chair or other portable seat, and whatever you're working on be it a knitting project or a crochet one. Come for as long as you like or as short as you like but we can guarantee that you're going to have a good time. We care about our community so much and this is a great opportunity to meet some new people or catch up with people you haven't see in a while. You'll also be surrounded by people who can help you if you come across a problem, so if you bring a problem piece and ask nicely, I'm sure it will be sorted in no time.

This is going to be a really entertaining day in (hopefully) the bright summer sun, and we really can't wait to see you all there. It's been a long time since we've done an event, and though the Big C has brought us all to our knees a bit, this event is us celebrating the fact that our shop and our community has gotten through it.

Here's the link to the Facebook event page!

We love you!
