Nice to see some bloke's stuff and interesting stuff too! I always feel a bit smug when I'm showing a pattern like this in the shop, like, 'yes it's modern, yes it's varied, yes it's a bit different, yes it's got eleventy billion variations and it's only £3.00'. Just so useful over time. 

We'd recommend using King Cole Forest Aran for this, a gorgeous nubbly 100% recycled yarn! You'll need 4.5mm and 5mm needles, along with a cable needle for the green snood, the grey hat and the burgundy hat. If you're knitting the scarf, you'll need a 100cm 4.5mm circular needle too - I'd recommend the Addi or Clover.
