It is a real shame that matinee coats are less in demand nowadays but these are lovely, simple patterns that would be perfect for any newborn. 

The fabulous thing about this pattern is that it gives you the option to use either DK or 4ply yarn. A knitters preferred yarn weight is a very variable thing so its nice to be able to offer a pattern that caters to so many. We would recommend trying King Cole Big Value Baby 4ply for a classic matinee coat; you could try using the solid white shade (there are also some gorgeous variegated shades too). For something a little more interesting you could try our King Cole Cherished DK which comes in a whole range of different colourways. 

For the 4ply patterns you will need 3mm and 3.25mm knitting needle. For the DK patterns you will need 3.75mm and 4mm knitting needles
