Welcome to our Fairisle/ Stranded knitting/ Colourwork knitting course - whichever you'd like to call it. This course is 2 sessions over a 3 week period with an optional Google Hangout on Friday 23rd May at 8pm for any questions, a catch up on progess and troubleshooting - don't worry if you haven't used Google Hangout before, I'll talk you through how to use it during the first session.

We'll be making a hot water bottle cover together; I'll talk you through the history of Fairisle and how it differs from other types of colourwork knitting.

Session 1:

History of Fairisle knitting, picking colours, casting on, picking a colourwork design, working with 2 strands of yarn at the same time.

Homework: Continue working on your hot water bottle at your own pace

Session 2:

Continue working on your hot water bottle, if you've gotten to the stage where decreases need to be made then I'll help you navigate those with your chosen design and move onto the ribbing to finish.

What's included?

A selection of yarn will be provided on the day so you can choose which colours you'd like to use - a mixture of wools and wool blends which tend to work best for colourwork. If you are a vegan or sensitive to wools please let us know and we'll discuss in advance your best options.

Hot water bottles to put in your finished cover are provided.

There's also added an option to purchase discounted needles for the lesson. You'll need 80cm, 4mm circular needles and 3.5mm dpns so if you've got these, great and if you haven't just click the option that you need below. There will be a pattern and informational leaflet to take home on the day. We also provide teas, coffees and snacks. If you've got any dietary requirements - like non-cows milk - please let us know beforehand so we can prepare for you.

The pictures on this listing are from our last Fairisle course where we made a small gift pouch.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Please note:

By booking a space on this course you are confirming that you are already confident with knitting and know how to cast on, knit (preferably in the round) and cast off. I would say that this workshop is for an advanced beginner/ intermediate knitter. Please don't book if you don't know how to knit - look out for one of our Learn to Knit workshops if you'd like to begin your knitting journey! No refunds will be given.
